Hutchinson selected to fill vacant board seat with Central Whidbey Fire

Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue will swear in fire commissioner Steve Hutchinson in June.

Hutchinson was one of five candidates to apply for the open position.

The board of directors interviewed candidates May 13 and made an appointment May 19.

Hutchinson has served as a volunteer firefighter with the district since 1988 and currently serves as an acting lieutenant at Station 51 in Coupeville. He has been employed as an airline pilot since 1975 and currently is a captain with Delta Airlines.

Hutchinson will be sworn in as commissioner 5 p.m. Thursday, June 12 during the board’s regular meeting, which will be held at Station 53, 164 Race Road, Coupeville.

Hutchinson is slated to serve as a commissioner until the next regular election at which time a commissioner would be elected. He will serve until the general election in November 2015.
