Drivers on Interstate 5 may experience minor delays early Saturday morning through the Mount Vernon and Burlington area while bridge inspection crews give temporary spans a checkup.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, crews will close one lane of northbound I-5 at the bridge from 5:30 to 10 a.m. They will close the right lane of southbound I-5 from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m.

Just like in July, crews will walk the upper structure, testing bolt tightness, inspecting the asphalt deck and looking for anything needing repair, such as damaged guardrail.

The Washington State Department of Transportation may perform one more inspection in September before the permanent span is installed.

A portion of the Interstate 5 bridge spanning the Skagit River collapsed in May.
