In the military

Air Force Airman Earlsam U. Silvino graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare. He is the son of Florita Silvino of NW. Fairhaven Drive, Oak Harbor, and a a 2003 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Army Pfc. Zachary A. Cole has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Suzanne Tennant of Boreas Lane, Oak Harbor. Cole is a 2009 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Phillip A. Chronister has been selected for promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Chronister, a current operations branch chief with 15 years of military service, is assigned to the Air Force Global Strike Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. His wife, Heather, is the daughter of Thomas and Susan Hamilton of Coupeville.
