Both the Coupeville High School track teams finished fourth in a four-team meet at South Whidbey High School Thursday, April 2.

The Wolves, however, did post impressive marks while winning two individual events and two relays.

Makana Stone, Sylvia Hurlburt, Lauren Grove and Marisa Etzell won the girls 4×200 with the state’s second-best 1A time this season, 1:49.75. (Cascade Christian leads with 1:47.97.)

The Coupeville quartet also won the 4×100 in 52.17, the state’s fourth-best 1A time.

Stone added a win in the 200, clocking a 27.11, the eighth-best time.

Skyler Lawrence finished second in the shot put (27-06) and eighth in the discus (65), while Lauren Bayne was runner up in the 1,600 (6:13.26) and Grove in the long jump (13-05).

Mattea Miller was fourth (74-08) and Allison Wenzel ninth (67-04) in the javelin.

Etzell placed fourth in the 100 (14.19), and Hurlburt (200, 28.16) and Abby Parker (800, 2:50.64) earned fifths.

For the boys, Mitchell Carroll led a 1-2 finish by Coupeville in the triple jump, going 35-09.5, followed by Connor Thompson at 34-06.5.

Thompson added two other second places, leaping 5-04 in the high jump and teaming with Lathom Kelley, Carroll and Jacob Smith in the 4×100 (49.91).

The boys earned thirds by Kelley (100, 12.05) and Jesse Hester (110 hurdles, 21).

Carroll added a fourth in the high jump (5) and a fifth in the long jump (16-05.5), and Smith was fifth in the 100 (12.24).

South Whidbey won the boys meet with 89 points, followed by Archbishop Murphy (86), Granite Falls (34) and Coupeville (28).

Murphy took the girls meet with 96 points, followed by South Whidbey (77), Granite Falls (38) and Coupeville (36).

Coupeville will take part in the Cashmere Invitational at noon Saturday, April 11.
