Harbor Tower Village wins award
Village Concepts, a third generation family-owned business that owns and operates Harbor Tower Village, was recognized as a Silver Winner in the 2013 Seattle Business magazine Family Business Awards.
Village Concepts was recognized in seven categories for their sense of responsibility, legacy, dedication and contribution to the local economy. The business recieved the award Nov. 19 in Seattle.

Recycle Christmas trees
To prevent your tree from sitting in a landfill this year, let Habitat for Humanity have it. The organization will collect bare trees with a minimum $5 donation from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Dec. 27-28 at its Freeland and Oak Harbor stores. Pioneer Tree and Landscaping will be chipping the trees for landscaping.

Bowling with Santa
Oak Harbor Wildcats will present a fundraiser for the Oak Harbor High School travel bowling league. The three-time state champions will host a three-hour bowling session with Santa and his helpers 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at Oak Bowl, 531 S.E. Midway Blvd. Cost is $12 per person or, for families of four or more, $10 per person. Shoe rental included.
Junior Achievement volunteers needed
If your New Year’s resolution is to do more and start giving back to the community, Junior Achievement programs will be starting at Oak Harbor, Broad View, Hillcrest, Crescent Harbor and Olympic View elementary schools. Volunteers are needed for five sessions of 30-45 minutes. The program has materials to help with classroom management.
