Coupeville will host its annual parade Saturday and Memorial Day ceremonies will take place in three Whidbey Island locations Monday to honor those who served in the military.

Coupeville’s parade, which consists of 75 entries, will start at 11 a.m. on South Main Street and finish at Coupeville Town Park.

The parade will feature the Navy Band from Navy Band Northwest, two World War II veterans and Capt. Michael Nortier, Commanding Officer of Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, as well as Coupeville Mayor Nancy Conard.

Also appearing in the parade will be Whidbey Island Ford Model A Club and Whidbey Cruzers.

Beth Kuchynka from bayleaf will serve as grand marshal as part of winning the business leadership of the year award from the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce.

After a remembrance ceremony, Central Whidbey Lions will be grilling up free hot dogs and giving out soda starting at 1 p.m.

A Memorial Day service will be held Monday at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor at 10 a.m., followed by another at historic Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville at noon.

The ceremonies are hosted by the American Legion Post 129, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7392 and the Fleet Reserve.

Sunnyside Cemetery also will offer a guided tour on Memorial Day led by Sally Straathof and local historian Roger Sherman, from 1-2 p.m. A tour pass is $5, which benefits the Island County Historical Society Museum.

South Whidbey will honor service members with a service at 11 a.m. Monday at Bayview Cemetery, near the intersection of Bayview and Howard roads.

This year the event is sponsored by the Marine Corps League and will be followed by a potluck at the American Legion South Whidbey Post 141, 14096 State Highway 525, in Langley.

Poppy Girls will also be in attendance selling poppies to support programs for veterans.
