Editor,
Thanks to a recent article in a regional daily newspaper, we have more detailed information concerning the Navy’s Outlying Field Coupeville controversy.
According to the map shown in the article, maximum jet noise levels in the OLF area do not exceed 70 decibels, which is comparable to the noise produced by a vacuum cleaner, as noted in the article.
With this startling information, if we can believe the COER activists, we must assume that all of those poor children who have been exposed to their mother’s Hoover will soon lose their hearing.
We can just imagine the outrage, and lawsuits this news will produce. Brace yourself, Mr. Hoover.
Getting back to jet noise, and considering the universal goodwill for America that we see all around the world, especially in places like China, Russia, Iran, etc., maybe we should just do away with those pesky Navy jets. Who needs them? And don’t forget the vacuum cleaners.

Editor’s note: Island County noise level maps indicate sound levels averaged over a year. Single event operations by the Navy can exceed 100 decibels.
