The tables were turned.

After winning every event over Monroe on Monday, the Oak Harbor High School swim was nearly shut out of first-place medals in a 123-56 loss at Kamiak Thursday, Dec. 6.

Josh Jepsen managed the Wildcats’ only win out of 12 events, taking the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.14.

Jepsen (200 individual medley, 1:59.38), Kevin Levy (50 free, 23.08; 100 free, 53.54) and Caley Powers (100 butterfly, 58.2) captured seconds, and the trio teamed with Cedric Cabigting to get second in  the 200 medley (1:43.61) and 200 free (1:33.98) relays.

Third places were picked up by Michael Johnson (200 IM, 2:19.41), Joe Gorman (500 free, 5:38.44) and the 400 free relay team of Johnson, Eli Mitchell, Clayton Livermore and Raymond Paraiso (4:51.44).

Wildcat coach Alex Thierry said Levy in the 50 free and the 200 free relay team missed state-qualifying times by less than a second.

He added, “I am very pleased with the progress taking place this season. We knew going into this meet that the result was highly likely to be the way it turned out. It was the first time many of the swimmers had been in a yard pool. Kamiak has big numbers and a great facility. Swimming against them was a great opportunity for our swimmers to push themselves early in the season.”

Oak Harbor (1-1) hosts Snohomish and Glacier Peak at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12.
