Eric Blake, a Los Angeles-based comic, will headline this year’s Komics Kare benefit shows. This is the fourth year that Comedy West/Odyssey Management Agency in Langley, has brought top level comics to Whidbey Island for Komics Kare benefit for Child Abuse Prevention Foundation. This year’s shows will start at 7 p.m. with a dinner and show on Friday, April 2, in Oak Harbor at the CPO Club, and Saturday, April 3, in Freeland at Freeland Hall.
Blake is a noted comic who has performed from coast to coast. He has also been seen on BET’s “Comic View,” and was the headline act for the comedy hit “War on Comedy” which aired on HBO and has recently been released on video. This success led Blake to be highlighted on an HBO documentaory on the eight most up and coming comedians in the country.
Joining Blake in Oak Harbor April 2 will be David Wright, Kristen Kirkham, Mike Wally Walter, and Eric Haines. David Wright got his start as an engineer at Boeing, moonlighting in his free time as a comedian. Now Wright can be seen performing in comedy clubs across three states, and uses his experiences from work and his personal life to bring laughs to the crowds.
Kristen Kirkham is called the “Amazon of Comedy,” and has been a headliner in the Pacific Northwest comedy clubs and shows for over seven years. Kirkham got her comedy start as the first woman in Robin Williams’ improv troupe in San Francisco, and has since performed with Gabe Kaplan and Ellen DeGeneres as well as performed oversees at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival.
Mike Wally Walter began his comedy career in 1982, and was nominated for Nightclub Comic of the Year in 1994. Walter uses his own life and family in his offbeat brand of humor, and has been branded as high energy, wild, zany, and always funny.
Guitar-slinging comedian Eric Haines has been known to use guitar, banjo, fire eating and a six foot tall unicycle in his one-man comedy shows. Haines has performed with Weird Al Yankovic and in New York’s Outrageous Universe Revival Festival, although much of his material comes from his background in Montana.
Saturday, April 3, Eric Blake will be part of a completely different line-up of comedians including Kermit Holiday, David Wright, Mike McCarthy, and Morgan Preston. All comedians and the Comedy West Agency donate their time and talents for these benefit shows, and local sponsors include Wallgren’s Les Schwab Tires, Island Construction, Whidbey Island Ford Mercury, Whidbey Island Bank, Krieg Construction, Coldwell Banker Tara Properties, and Chef Patti’s Casual Gourmet as well as from contributors Land Title, Thatcher & Morrison, and Davido Consulting.
Tickets for the show and dinner cost $25, and are available at the Daily Grind in Oak Harbor, Videoville in Coupeville, New Beginnings Thrift Store in Coupeville, Briar Patch Florist in Freeland, the Langley Chamber, and Clinton Serendipity Hallmark.
