A couple of last-minute filers Friday means an Oak Harbor City Council seat is heading for the primary election.

Scott Dudley, Mel Vance and Gerry Oliver are all vying for the seat that will be vacated by Councilman Eric Gerber. Only incumbents filed for the other three positions city council positions that will be on the ballot this fall.

Three candidates have filed for one of the seats on the North Whidbey Park and Recreation board. Ed McLaughlin, Ron Rhinehart and Steven Hoffmire will face each other in the primary.

A late filer also made a race out of a North Whidbey Fire and Rescue position. Jerry Goen’s name was posted Friday afternoon as a challenger to Larry Morse.

Generally, incumbent office holders marched to the Island County Auditor’s Office this week to re-up for another term without much competition.

For Oak Harbor City Council, incumbents Bob Severns, Danny Paggao and Jim Campbell signed up.

For Oak Harbor School Board, incumbents Corey Johnson and Gary Wallin both signed up.

For Whidbey Island General Hospital District, incumbents Grethe Cammermeyer, Paul Zaveruha and Anne Tarrant all filed without competition.

In Coupeville, there’s a competitive situation where Tom Tack and Sue Cunningham are seeking the same Town Council seat. Incumbent Dianne Binder filed for the other seat.

The Coupeville School Board has three seats available. Signing up for separate seats were Kathleen Anderson, Jeffrey Tasoff and Chris Chan.

The large majority of the various water, cemetery and sewer district seats on Whidbey Island attracted at least one candidate, but none had attracted two as of Friday morning.

There will be two primary races on South Whidbey. For Port of South Whidbey commissioner, position 2, Randy Heston, Herb Hesel, Dean Enell and Chris Jerome all filed. The incumbent, Ralph Seitle, did not filed. For Fire District 3 commissioner, incumbent Mike Helland will face Don Carscadden, Gary Gabelein and Frank Mestemacher in the primary.
