Voters will get the chance to hear from the candidates vying for several hotly contested seats up for election in Oak Harbor tonight.

The League of Women Voters is hosting a candidate forum Wednesday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge.

Incumbent Oak Harbor Mayor Jim Slowik is being challenged by Oak Harbor City Council member Scott Dudley. In addition, several city council seats also have competitive races in the November election. Paul Brewer and Tara Hizon are competing for Position 1, Larry Eaton and Beth Munns are competing for Position 2 and Rick Almberg and Mel Vance are competing for position 3.

There are also several other contested races in Oak Harbor. Christine Abbott and John Worthington are vying for a vacancy on the Oak Harbor School Board while TJ Lamont hopes to fight off a challenge from Larry Wall for his seat on the North Whidbey Fire and Rescue Board.

In addition, leaders from the North Whidbey Parks and Recreation District will provide details about a renewal levy that is on the November ballot. That levy helps fund operations of the John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

All candidates participating in the forum will be given a few minutes to introduce themselves and then answer questions from the audience.

The forums give voters a chance to hear from candidates before casting their ballot in the mail-in election.
