Paced by a four-goal effort from Mia Littlejohn, the Coupeville High School soccer team crushed Chimacum 8-0 Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Olympic League opener at Mickey Clark Field.
“Great conference win,” coach Troy Cowan said. “All the girls played lights out.”
Littlejohn, a junior, completed a hat trick 25 minutes into the match to lead the Wolves to a 3-0 halftime lead. She tacked on a fourth goal and an assist after the break.
Littlejohn’s sophomore sister Kalia added two goals, and Bree Daigneault and Avalon Renninger each scored. Daigneault and Sage Renninger recorded assists.
The offense was aided by Lauren Bayne’s “huge night, making offensive runs from her defensive stronghold all night,” Cowan said.
The Coupeville defense was also stellar; goalkeeper Lauren Grove touched the ball only twice. Defenders Tia Wurzrainer and Mallory Kortuem were “impressive,” according to Cowan.
“The three P’s (possession, pressure, purpose) were a point of emphasis, and with the help of new assistant coach Samantha Shulock, the girls played well,” Cowan said.
Coupeville (1-0-1) hosts Sequim (1-2) in a non-league match at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.
