Oak Harbor’s senior quarterback Marshall Lobbestael has made a verbal commitment to play football for Washington State University next fall.
Friday evening, Nov. 10, he received a telephone call from WSU quarterbacks coach Timm Rosenbaugh, who reportedly made a scholarship offer to the Wildcats’ three-year starter.
Lobbestael has passed for 2,084 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading Oak Harbor to the WesCo North championship and victories over Kentwood and Mariner in the first two rounds of the state playoffs.
The offer from WSU was the first one he had received and he jumped at the chance to play football for the Cougars.
Wildcat coach Dave Ward said he thought the school was a good fit for Lobbestael and he has the potential to succeed in college football after having been a three year starting player at Oak Harbor.
Lobbestael also plays basketball and is a starting pitcher and shortstop on the baseball team.
Under NCAA rules, he can sign a formal letter of intent to attend the school on Feb. 7, 2007.
