Local business: Telemarketing supports causes

Local business

Telemarketing helps causes

The last time I checked, telemarketers were taxpaying, hard working citizens. A comparison to sex offenders (Letters, June 1) is truly unjust and only reflects on your intellect.

I have worked for many a fine charity that uses telemarketers for upstanding causes including the Annual Police Officers Rodeo (supports disabled children and children’s hospitals), The American Cancer Society (self explanatory for most of us but if you need enlightenment, I’m in the book), and the American Lung Association, only to name a few. Mr. Caylor, If you cannot decline a young single mother, who may be working her way off the welfare roles in an honest occupation, may I suggest you follow Nancy Reagan’s advice and “Just say ‘No’?” Or, the obvious, bear the absolutely minimal (some units less than $20) expense of monitoring your calls on an answering machine or use Caller ID.

You are not forced to listen. If you can’t just do this simple gesture, maybe you are another of those weak citizens we must create massive books of laws to protect. May I respectfully suggest you join one of the worthy organizations mentioned above instead of sitting around waiting for the phone to ring?
