“On June 21, the Greenbank Farm will be a place of love. Love between people and love of the Earth.A new event – called Love Infusion – will celebrate the summer solstice with music by Seattle and Whidbey Island artists, spoken words, laser lights, fire dancing and a strong message about sustainable living. The benefit, designed for all ages, will benefit for the Whidbey Island Greenbank Farm, One Drop Zen Center and Riversong Institute, groups that emphasise sustainable solutions for everyday life, such as alternative energy production, recycling, and earth-friendly consumerism. There will be education about sustainability and community building activities throughout the day, along with the music and other entertainment. The program includes speakers and workshops, a children’s camp, farmers market, multi-generation playground, drum circles, displays, vendors, and an open barter fair. Those attending are encouraged to bring items to give away or barter with. Leftovers will be donated to local charities. Spectators are invited to become participants in dance, ritual, and visual exhibits. Vendors and organic farmers will demonstrate alternative uses of energy, products and consumption. The event is being organized by members of South Whidbey’s AmeriCorps team and by individuals on South Whidbey and around the Puget Sound area. One of the festival’s organizers, Brett Coleman, said the Love Infusion grew indirectly out of the demonstrations that took place at the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle earlier this year.’We have created a community, a very quickly growing community, Coleman said.Coleman and the festival’s other organizers said the event is part of a movement to create serious and sustainable solutions through the same techniques applied by advertising and media. Except we are not creating consumers, Coleman said. We are empowering, educating and implementing sustainability in epic proportions.Love Infusion and a number of yet-unplanned, future events are designed to generate a wave front of public attention to the principles of sustainability, and to celebrate the human connection with the planet.Participants are invited to arrive on the island a day early to tour a home made out of garbage and a straw-bale home development on June 20 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The tours will be followed by a musical jam and potluck at the Bayview Hall in Clinton on South Whidbey. All proceeds and donations collected at the event will go to projects that promote sustainability and/or community building. There are a number of ways to get to the Love Infusion. Bike rallies will set out from both Mukilteo and Port Townsend Ferries. Island Transit buses run from the ferry to the farm. Carpooling is encouraged. Camping is available at several sites near the Greenbank Farm.To reduce waste, participants are asked to bring their own utensils and mugs._________________________Get infusedWhat: Love InfusionWhere: Whidbey Island Greenbank FarmWhen: Wednesday, June 21, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.How much: $6 adults, $3 for children under 12Find out more: Call Brett Coleman at (360) 331-4307 for tour info and (360) 331-7263 or (206) 723-2404 for bike rally info.
