The Marysville-Pilchuck High School softball team pounded out 18 hits and took advantage of five Oak Harbor errors to defeat the host Wildcats 18-3 in five innings Monday, May 9.
Although Oak Harbor lost, it clinched fourth place in the Wesco North and a berth in the district tournament when Stanwood fell 10-0 to Everett.
The district tournament begins Tuesday, May 17, at Everett’s Phil Johnson Fields.
First, the Wildcats (3-6, 5-14) wrap up the regular season at Marysville Getchell (0-9, 2-17) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 10.
Before the loss to Marysville-Pilchuck, Oak Harbor honored its five seniors, Tiana Douglas, Alexa Findley, Kelly Findley, Taylor Heidt and Tricia Sarns.
Three of the seniors helped the Wildcats get off to a good start when Oak Harbor scored all three of its runs in the first inning.
Alexa Findley led off with a single, Kelly Findley walked, and then with one out, Sarns ripped a triple into right field to drive in two runs. Audrey Howard singled in Sarns.
That gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead, then the Tomahawks took off and Oak Harbor’s offense stalled.
M-P scored two runs in the second inning, four in each of the third and fourth and six in the fifth.
Eight of Marysville-Pilchuck’s 18 runs were unearned.
Three Wildcats combined to register Oak Harbor’s seven hits.
Sarns added a single and double to her triple, and Alexa Findley and Howard each finished with two hits.
Katie Barrett and Sydney Zachary each went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs for the Tomahawks (7-2, 14-4).
