An Oak Harbor man is accused of raping an 11-year-old girl last month, according to a police report.
Prosecutors charged 35-year-old Brian Keith Reed with rape of a child in the first degree, a domestic violence charge, in Island County Superior Court Aug.12. The judge set his bail at $25,000 bail.
The report states that Reed was watching a movie at the victim’s home the evening the incident occurred. The victim’s mother, who was quarantined with COVID-19, was in her bedroom. Reed was watching the movie in the living room, and the girl joined him, the report states.
According to the report, the girl told police that Reed asked her to put her legs on his, then proceeded to remove her clothes and rape her. The girl said Reed did this twice before her mother came out of the bedroom to tell the girl to go to bed, at which point Reed pretended to be asleep, the report states.
The girl ran into her mother’s room and told her what happened. Her mother briefly confronted Reed and then drove her daughter to the hospital, the report states.
Reed told police that he had been drinking and fell asleep watching the movie. He said he woke up to the girl’s mother yelling at him but has no memory of anything else occurring that night, the report states.
The girl’s mother told the police that Reed never gets “blackout drunk” and has great memory recall, even when intoxicated, according to the report. Later in the report, Reed confirmed that he typically has excellent memory.
After Reed refused to provide a DNA sample, police obtained a warrant for his DNA, which has since been collected and sent for testing, the report states.
