A 36-year-old Oak Harbor man accused of holding three different knives to his girlfriend’s throat three different times is facing felony charges, court documents indicate.

Prosecutors charged Craig Lowry in Island County Superior Court Oct. 23 with assault in the second degree with a deadly weapon and unlawful imprisonment. Both are filed as domestic violence charges.

Deputy Dan Waggoner with the Island County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 hang-up call from a North Whidbey residence. He went to the home and spoke to a 28-year-old woman who was clearly upset, but reluctant to talk about what had happened.

Waggoner wrote in his report on the incident that the woman eventually told him that her boyfriend, Lowry, got angry and held a steak knife to her throat during dinner, the report states.

The woman claimed that Lowry continued to get angrier and angrier and held her down on the couch, putting a different knife to her throat, Waggoner wrote.

The alleged victim said she tried to escape from the home, the deputy wrote, but Lowry pushed her up against the frame of the door and this time held a butcher knife to her throat.

Lowry told Waggoner that he had been in bed for an hour or two and didn’t know why the woman called 911, the report states.

If convicted of the charges, Lowry could face from a year and a month to a year and five months in prison under the standard sentencing range.
