A 22-year-old Oak Harbor resident is facing possible prison time for allegedly sneaking in through the window of his ex-girlfriend’s home and assaulting her.

Geovanni Gabourel pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Nov. 9 to charges of residential burglary, first-degree theft, fourth-degree assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

If convicted, Gabourel could face between a year and 14 months in prison.

According to a report written by Coupeville Deputy Ray Heltsley, a 20-year-old SW Terry Road resident reported Oct. 17 that she was having on-going problems with her ex-boyfriend, Gabourel. She reported that earlier that day her father had forced Gabourel to leave her home, but Gabourel returned and snuck in through the window after her dad left.

The alleged victim said that Gabourel struck her in the face and then got into a car with her when she tried to leave. She started driving to the police station, but Gabourel managed to stop the car and escape with $100 he stole from her purse, court papers show.

Judge Vickie Churchill set Gabourel’s bail at $5,000.
