A silver Dodge Dart heading eastbound into Oak Harbor on Highway 20 hit two cars, left the roadway and ended up on fire in an apartment complex parking lot this afternoon.

The vehicle went over a sidewalk and through a row of trees around 3:20 p.m. before skidding into a parked Toyota Tacoma and landing on its side in an apartment complex parking lot off Bayshore Drive.

Firefighters pulled the driver, a man in his 80s, from the burning car, said Oak Harbor Fire Chief Ray Merrill. They then put out a small fire.

The man is reportedly in serious condition, but his injuries didn’t appear to be life threatening, Merrill said. He was transported to Whidbey General Hospital. The other drivers weren’t hurt.

“I was in my bedroom when I heard screeching and a crash,” said Aundronique Jones. The car almost hit her husband’s truck parked nearby.
