A man convicted of felony assault was picked up on a $50,000 warrant issued after failing to appear for his sentencing hearing, court documents indicate.

Kenneth G. Bradford, 24, of Everson pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court April 1 to assault in the third degree.

Under the terms of the plea bargain, the prosecution and defense agreed to recommend the judge sentence Bradford to one year and one day in prison, an exceptional sentence that is one day beyond the standard range.

Sentencing hearing was scheduled for May 13, but Bradford didn’t appear.

Island County Superior court Judge Vickie Churchill issued a $50,000 bench warrant for Bradford’s arrest. He was picked up by law enforcement Tuesday.

Bradford pleaded guilty to beating up his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend outside a Rolling Hills home May 11, 2012, according to Superior Court documents.

Bradford went to the home with another man, who wasn’t identified, court documents said. Bradford kicked in the door and demanded that his ex-girlfriend come out.

When she didn’t, Bradford demanded that her new boyfriend come out of the house. He did and Bradford beat him up.

The unidentified man stood in the driveway, sparking a stun gun and telling others to “stay back and let them fight,” the deputy’s report states.

The victim suffered a possible broken nose and a loose tooth, said the report.
