“A 32-year-old Oak Harbor man who tackled a police officer and then picked him up and threw him on Pioneer Way last year recently pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree assault.Kevin Tinker took an Alford’s plea in the case, which is a guilty plea that means he doesn’t admit that he committed the crimes but believes prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him. He was originally charged with third-degree and fourth-degree assault.Island County Superior Court Judge Vicki Churchill sentenced him to 365 days in jail with 363 days suspended, plus a year of community supervision.Tinker was also ordered to have no contact with For Pete’s Sake.Oak Harbor Police Sgt. Bill Russell wrote in the offense report that he was on patrol at 2:15 a.m. Dec. 11, 1999, and saw a couple of men acting rowdy in the street downtown.Russell wrote that Tinker violently pushed a doorman from For Pete’s Sake who had come outside. Russell pulled Tinker off the man, but then Tinker tackled him.Tinker picked him off the ground, threw him on the street and got on top of him, trying to punch him in the face.
