The Coupeville School Board is hoping to have a new superintendent named by the end of May.

Staff, students and residents will have a chance next week to comment about the criteria school leaders should use in seeking a replacement for Patty Page, who is resigning at the end of the year.

An online survey is being developed for people wishing to provide input and a meeting will be held Wednesday, April 11 to gather feedback about the position.

Those participating in the process will be asked four questions:

• What are some of the strengths you see in the community?

• What are some of the strengths you see in the Coupeville School District?

• What are the characteristics that you feel are particularly desirable in a superintendent?

• What challenges do you see ahead for the school district in the near future?

The April 11 community meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Coupeville Middle School and High School Commons.

Page submitted her resignation last month after she accepted the superintendent position with the North Kitsap School District. She will continue working for the Coupeville School District through the end of the school year.

The Coupeville School District is advertising the position and applications will be accepted through April.

The school board recently approved a $6,500 contract, plus expenses, with MacPherson and Jacobson to conduct a search for a new superintendent.

Once the application window closes, the school board will meet in executive session May 7 to identify finalists to interview.

Day-long visitations will take place May 14 through 17 where candidates will visit schools, meet with staff and get interviewed by the board, residents and parents.

The board is scheduled to decide on a new superintendent May 21 and approve a new contract the following week.
