The Eighth Annual Megan McClung Memorial Run hits the roads and trails of the Oak Harbor waterfront Saturday, Sept. 10.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Harbor’s Windjammer Park and will feature a half marathon, 10K, 5K and kids’ 1K.
The runs are to honor Maj. Megan McClung, who was the first United States Marine Corps officer to die in combat in the Iraq War. She was 34.
McClung enjoyed competing in marathons and triathlons, and in 2006 she organized the first Marine Corps Marathon in Iraq.
The run, hosted by McClung’s parents (Michael and Re McClung of Coupeville) and the city of Oak Harbor, will raise funs for Marines and Navy personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Military Appreciation Picnic will follow the run.
