It was a scene that played out all over the state and nation — people gathering for a Memorial Day ceremony to honor military personnel, remember those who have fallen and give thanks to those still fighting for our freedoms. Only in Coupeville, the town not only listened to words of thanks from today’s military and wisdom of the survivors of great wars past — they made sure to celebrate those freedoms all generations of military work so hard to protect. The town and its people donned patriotic regalia and marched proudly in a parade. Everyone gathered at Town Park for ice cream, hot dogs and to enjoy the glorious sunshine. “That’s why we’re here, our freedoms,” said Navy veteran Art Foley who sat along the parade route. “We’re here to celebrate those who have fought for us.
