A 49-year-old Coupeville woman with a history of drug-related crimes was recently sent to prison for methamphetamine possession.

A jury found Teresa Johnson guilty in Island County Superior Court Aug. 25 of possession of methamphetamine.

Judge Vickie Churchill sentenced her to a year and a day in prison, which is right in the middle of the standard sentencing range.

Also, Churchill ordered Johnson to pay $4,419 in fines and fees.

Oak Harbor Police Officer Cedric Niiro caught Johnson driving in Oak Harbor without headlights turned on. He pulled her over and found that she was wanted on a couple of warrants.

After bringing her to the jail, Niiro checked his police car and found a nylon bag stuffed under the passenger seat. Inside the bag were five small baggies of meth.

According to court records, Johnson has three previous convictions for drug crimes. In 1994, she was convicted of delivery of cocaine and delivery of pot. Last year, she was convicted of meth possession.
