Mount Baker scored at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters to cruise by the Coupeville High School boys basketball team 78-40 Monday, Dec. 8, in Deming.

The game ended a run of five games in eight days for Coupeville. The Wolves will now play only two games in the next 25 days. The first is a big one, the league opener with Klahowya at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in Coupeville.

Although the Wolves finished the five-game run with only one win, they are the only Olympic League 1A school to win a game so far this winter. Klahowya is 0-3, while Chimacum and Port Townsend are 0-2.

Timothy Soares led Mount Baker to its easy win over Coupeville, collecting 22 points and 17 rebounds.

The Mountaineers raced to a 21-9 first quarter lead and upped the margin to 44-21 at the half.

The third quarter was much the same as Mount Baker outscored Coupeville 21-7.

One bright spot for Coupeville was Ryan Griggs, who finished with a career high 15 points; he also grabbed five rebounds.

Wiley Hesselgrave and Matt Shank had five points, Aaron Curtin and Dalton Martin four, Joel Walstad three, Risen Johnson two, and Aaron Trumbull and Gabe Wynn one.
