The popular Mr. South Whidbey pageant will not be held this year on the first Saturday of October, as originally planned.

Organizers for the event said that it will instead be rescheduled to happen in October 2021.

An event as unique as the South End, the all-male pageant has been a favorite among many.

The zany shindig has provided an opportunity for community members to vote with their dollars for their favorite contestant, with their money supporting the Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund.

The nonprofit’s fund covers medical costs for South Whidbey residents who cannot afford them.

This would have been the 15th year for the pageant.

On Oct. 3, the public is invited to a virtual remembrance event that will be held in its place called Mr. South Whidbey’s Message of Gratitude.

Kristi Price, vice president of the nonprofit’s board, said the Message of Gratitude video will premiere on the Friends of Friends website at 7 p.m. and will provide entertainment that can safely be viewed from everyone’s living room.

“With this video, we also want to express our gratitude for being able to continue to serve our community, especially during a pandemic,” Price said.

According to a press release, the video event will feature “local funny gal and MC” Sue Frause and former winners.

“In a year marked by uncertainty, Friends of Friends Medical Support is focusing on all that we have to be grateful for, including founder Lynn Willeford, community grants, donations, volunteers and the 88 men who have run for Mr. South Whidbey,” the press release stated.
