The Island County Historical Society Museum is hosting a free children’s workshop for five days during spring break next week.
The Rube Goldberg workshop is designed for 10 kids from fourth to sixth grades. It will take place April 4-8 at the museum, which is located near the Coupeville Wharf.
Nearly all of the slots have been filled for the first class, however the museum will offer a second class if enough children show interest.
The deadline to sign up is noon Friday, April 1. To sign up, call 360-678-3310.
The workshop is designed to get kids to think creatively and is inspired by Goldberg, a cartoonist and inventor who created complicated gadgets that performed a simple function. Under the direction of Sherri Brady, participants will design and create an invention that will perform a simple operation like the ones that helped make Goldberg famous.
The contraption will be demonstrated to the public at 5:30 p.m., April 8 during a free open house at the museum.
The workshop is provided by the Safeway Foundation.
