National Night Out is put on to reduce crime in the city and bring neighbors together.

Rain or shine, come out and participate in National Night Out. A day of fun and safety teaching is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 2, for the annual National Night Out at City Beach Park in Oak Harbor. National Night Out is put on to reduce crime in the city and bring neighbors together. This year the event will include appearances and programs by local police, Navy, and state law enforcement officers. In addition, the local fire department will also be involved. Food vendors will be available as well as many organizations and clubs for activities to participate in. Some confirmed vendors include Big Brothers, Big Sisters, OHHS Cheerleaders, Academy of Dance, Navy Seabee Veterans, Whidbey Cruzers and the Girl Scouts Totem Council. In addition, a parade will occur during the day and will be followed by a simulated accident scene for viewers to see. Also, a Search and Rescue helicopter will be there as well.

Rick Bell, the chairman of the National Night Out committee for Oak Harbor is excited about this year’s event.

“We are hoping for a great turnout. Be sure to mark Aug. 2 on your calendars as a day to come out and meet your neighbors and see about crime-fighting efforts in your home town,” Bell said.

Gather your family and friends and enjoy a night of relaxation and entertainment.
