Nine shine for NWAC in July 16 meet

Competing at Fidalgo Pool on Friday, July 16, nine North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers recorded 100 percent personal records.

Competing at Fidalgo Pool on Friday, July 16, nine North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers recorded 100 percent personal records.

They included Brenden Darnell, Joel Erickson, Justin Erickson, Alli Hoffmire, Michael Johnson, Jeron Kosbar, Clayton Livermore, Ameerah McCowin and Medina McCowin.

Both Joel Erickson (boys 13-and-older) and Johnson (boys 11-12) won all three of their individual events. Erickson knocked eight seconds off his 100 fly (1:15.18), and Johnson dropped five seconds in his 100 individual medley (1:28.54).

Other NWAC event winners included Justin Erickson, Julia Krishtal, and Ameerah McCowin.

Competing in the girls 10-and-under division, Ameerah McCowin also took home NWAC Swimmer of the Meet honors. She swam three individual PR’s, including a five-second improvement in the 50 fly (39.79), recorded two blistering relay legs and won two individual events.

NWAC next competes at the Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships in Federal Way, July 29 to Aug. 1, where it will field a team of 32, and at the Anacortes Tri-Meet, July 30, where it will field a team of 26.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college. Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:25 to 5:10 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
