I’m just wondering if the county commissioners read all the letters in the newspapers, all your e-mails, all the comments from your own department and listened to the people who voted for you and are asking you not to allow hunting in the Kettles area.

No one has seen a deer in there for years anyway. Ask any of the many people you know who hike and bike in there every day. Maybe only a few of us remember, but there has been a fatality in the hunting fields of Coupeville. Over 30 years ago a boy accidentally shot his brother in the back.

If you allow hunting in the Kettles you limit a lot of families who are here for the holiday season from using that recreational area. There are only a few registered hunters in Island County. So the majority of the voters are restricted from using it.

Who’s going to vote for you again if you make our lives endangered by stray bullets hitting cars going down the highway by the Kettles? (Yes, the driver is OK, but it could have caused a multi-car crash.) That would look real good on the evening news: “Hunters shooting at cars on Whidbey highways.” Great for the tourist trade. Especially during the holiday season. Let’s just leave the Kettles a nice, safe family place for the hikers, bikers and horse riders.
