A barn on Frostad Road that was serving as a residence was damaged in a fire over the weekend, North Whidbey Fire and Rescue reported.
Interim Fire Chief Chris Swiger said the agency responded to the incident at 9:03 a.m. Sunday, May 21. Navy fire was also dispatched and arrived on the scene first.
Swiger said North Whidbey firefighters were advised prior to their arrival that the barn was fully involved. When North Whidbey Fire arrived, heavy smoke was issuing from one side. Firefighters discovered living quarters in part of the barn, which is where the fire was.
No people or animals were injured in this incident. The barn was not entirely destroyed, but the living quarters were damaged. Swiger said the person living in the structure was contacted and is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
Swiger said the fire is under investigation but has been determined to be unintentional.
North Whidbey Fire was on the scene for around an hour and half.
