Vendors, band stake out park

Approximately 50 vendors peddling everything from antiques to rummage will tempt visitors to the Beachcombers Bazaar this Saturday in Oak Harbor.

The Beachcombers Bazaar, a community garage sale sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Oak Harbor, will be held June 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Windjammer (formerly City Beach) Park.

Kiwanian Martha Wallin said vendors will feature a variety of products including antiques, tools, books, toys, arts and crafts, shrubbery, furniture, greeting cards, birdhouses, rummage sale items, and food.

In addition, the All Island Concert Band will provide a concert from 2 to 3 p.m.

“Come on down for some great bargains and great music,” Wallin said. “It should be a big event.”

Motorcyclist wrecks bike

A 24-year-old man was treated and released from Whidbey General Hospital after crashing his motorcycle Thursday on Highway 20 north of Oak Harbor.

At approximately 6:21 p.m., Beaverton, Ore., resident Christopher Denker, was riding a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle north on Highway 20. When he approached the intersection with Monkey Hill Road, he had to veer off the highway to avoid colliding with vehicles stopped on the roadway, according to information from the Washington State Patrol.

He was transported to the hospital in Coupeville. The State Patrol determined Denker’s improper handling of his motorcycle caused the accident.

Rides, fireworks, parades, oh my!

With summer officially bringing Oak Harbor residents out of hibernation, the Greater Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce’s highly-anticipated, annual Fourth of July celebration and awe-inspiring fireworks display is right around the corner.

“The Fourth of July celebration and the Harbor Station Community fireworks extravaganza are two of the best ways to kick-off the summer and bring the community together,” said Heather Johnson of the chamber. “The business community is always eager to sponsor the community fireworks each year.”

Discount carnival tickets are on sale at the chamber for $20 until July 2, after which they will be sold for $25 at carnival.
