A 13-year-old Oak Harbor boy was saved from drowning in an Anacortes lake Saturday.

Capt. Lou D’Amelio with the Anacortes Police Department said that a group of teenagers were swimming at about 5 p.m. in Cranberry Lake, which is located off Georgia Place within the city limits.

The 13-year-old boy began to flounder in the water. His friends tried to help, but he slipped under the water and they couldn’t find him, according to the police.

The teenagers yelled for help and two adults in the parking lot jumped into the water. They located the unconscious boy and brought him to shore.

The adults immediately started CPR on the boy until an Anacortes police officer arrived and took over. She continued until a medical team from the Anacortes Fire Department arrived, according to the police.

The life-saving efforts continued as the teenager was transported to Island Hospital. He was then airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Seattle.

D’Amelio said the teenager was listed in critical condition on Sunday. He would not release the name of the boy being he is a minor.
