The Oak Harbor Police Department busted a couple of Oak Harbor residents June 28 on suspicion of dealing the felonious stimulants methamphetamine and cocaine in the area.

Officers with the department’s Drug Enforcement Unit developed information about drug dealing in the city and were able to secure a search warrant for the NW Crosby Road mobile home.

Capt. Rick Wallace wouldn’t comment on the on-going investigation except to say that the department “typically uses informants.”

The police served a search warrant at about 6:20 p.m. They arrested a 41-year-old man and his 22-year-old wife on suspicion of possessing meth and cocaine with intent to deliver. The couple’s one-year-old baby was taken into protective custody and turned over to Child Protective Services.

Officers seized about 52 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 26 grams of suspected cocaine, along with over $1,000 in cash. Wallace said the street value of the meth is about $4,000 and the cocaine is worth about $2,000.

“It’s a fairly significant amount,” he said, compared to similar busts.

Wallace said there was no indication that the meth had been manufactured at the home. Investigators, he said, are looking into where the drugs came from.

The male suspect is being held in the county jail on $25,000 bail. Wallace said the police and prosecutor didn’t ask for bail on the woman. She is pregnant and kept on fainting during the search and afterward.

“As with virtually all communities, drugs have a negative impact on our community as a whole, as well as destroying individual lives and families,” Police Chief Steve Almon said. “We will take a very pro-active approach in our efforts to reduce the availability of drugs in our city.”
