Five Oak Harbor residents were transported to Island Hospital in Anacortes following a two-car accident on Highway 20 in Skagit County Sunday afternoon, according to a Washington State Patrol accident report.
The accident memo states that Oak Harbor resident Jason Garey, 38, was driving a gray 2014 Ford Explorer east on the highway and stopped at a red light at the intersection with La Conner Whitney Road. The passengers in the Explorer were 42-year-old Tiffany Garey and three children, ages 12, 9 and 6 years old.
Taumi Vitell, 39, of Bothell was driving east in a red 2004 Ford Explorer but failed to stop at the light and struck the Garey’s vehicle, according to the State Patrol.
The vehicles landed in the westbound left turn lane on Highway 20. The accident was reported at 2:26 p.m.
All six persons involved in the accident were injured and transported to Island Hospital. A state patrol spokesperson said he did not know the extent of the injuries.
Both cars were totaled and towed from the scene.
There were no drugs or alcohol involved in the accident, and all parties were wearing seatbelts, the report states.
The State Patrol report states that Vitell may faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ignition interlock violation, meaning she was operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device when she was required to use one, according to the accident report.
