Two high school soccer teams, Oak Harbor and Everett, headed into Wednesday’s final Wesco match looking for their first conference win, and neither received their wish.

The Wildcats (0-11-1, 3-11-1) and Seagulls (0-9-3, 1-12-3) battled to a 2-2 tie on a rainy night in Oak Harbor.

The two teams traded goals, with Oak Harbor’s Caylie Etherington scoring first.

Everett evened the match with 16 minutes left in the second period. Etherington scored again for Oak Harbor two minutes later.

Everett cashed in off a direct kick with about 10 minutes left in the match to tie it up.

Both teams produced solid scoring chances in the two five-minute overtime periods but couldn’t kick in the winner.

Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg was disappointed that his club couldn’t pull out a win in a match it dominated, but he was pleased with he effort of his short-handed team.

The Wildcats were missing five players out with injuries.

“The girls played hard; they played to the last second,” he said. “They finished with class.”

It was the final match for Oak Harbor seniors Matti Miesle, Alyssa Cross, Suzanne Kaltenbach, Renee Ross and Carly Hall.
