Oak Harbor has new venue for quarterfinal game with Skyview

The Wildcats will have a new venue when they take on Skyview in the Class 4A state quarterfinal football game which will be played tonight at Snohomish Stadium.

Skyview, 11-0, is the Greater St. Helens League champion, and defeated South Kitsap 21-15 in the opening round of the playoffs Nov. 4 before beating Puyallup 14-9 last Saturday to get into the game against the Wildcats.

“They have a real good tailback and good team speed,” Wildcat coach Dave Ward said. “They also have an excellent middle linebacker who anchors the defense, and have kept teams from scoring a lot of points in the playoffs.”

The Skyview Storm had impressive offensive numbers during the regular season including a 49-0 win over Fort Vancouver in the opening game of the season, and a 55-7 win over Battle Ground, and averaged just over 38 points per game.

Defensively, Skyview held its opponents to just over 14 points per game.

Oak Harbor also has a strong offensive and defensive unit and recently had 10 players named WesCo North first and second-team all-stars.

Marshall Lobbestael, Chris Valencia, Rodrick Rumble and Tony Thulin lead the offense, anchored by linemen Will Hunter, Jake Rouser and Matt Davison.

On defense, Joe Raymond and Brenden Kays join Hunter, Rouser, and Valencia.

Lobbestael has thrown for 2,084 yards and 28 touchdowns, and Valencia leads the team in rushing with 918 yards.

Rumble is the leading scorer with 98 points and Davison leads the team in solo tackles with 36.

Kickoff against Skyview, is set for 7 p.m. in Snohomish.
