An Oak Harbor man pleaded not guilty Monday to trying to elude police while driving drunk on North Whidbey, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Gordon Mosher, 31, in Island County Superior Court Aug. 14 with attempting to elude police, DUI, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.

Trooper Lawrence Provoncha with the Washington State Patrol wrote a report about the Aug. 9 incident. He was patrolling on Scenic Heights Road at around 7 p.m. when a black car drove by traveling 67 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Provoncha pulled in behind the car to stop it, but the driver increased his speed, driving past a bicyclist on the narrow road. The trooper followed onto a couple of small roads, then onto Monroe Landing Road and Arnold Road.

Provoncha estimated the car’s speed at 100 to 115 mph on Arnold Road. He wrote in his report that several pedestrians were on the side of the road while Mosher was driving recklessly.

The car finally stopped at the intersection with State Highway 20 and the trooper arrested the driver, identified as Mosher.

Mosher’s blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.157 and 0.156 percent, nearly twice the legal blood-alcohol limit of 0.08 percent.

Mosher could face up to a year in jail if convicted of the charges against him.
