Oak Harbor man charged with violating court order

An Oak Harbor man allegedly tried to break down the door of a house on North Whidbey.

An Oak Harbor man allegedly tried to break down the door of a house on North Whidbey, the residents of which had a court order against him, according to a police report.

Prosecutors charged Ryan W. Hickey, 34, with domestic violence felony violation of a court order and malicious mischief in the third degree in Island County Superior Court Jan. 12.

Police apprehended Hickey Dec. 17 after an occupant of the Oak Harbor home called to report that Hickey was outside the house acting strangely, the report states. The occupant told police that Hickey appeared to be under the influence of drugs. During the phone call, Hickey made attempts to kick down the front door, the report states.

A court order issued in 2018 prohibits Hickey from being within 500 feet of the house or either of its residents, according to the report.

Hickey could face 22-29 months in jail, as per the standard sentencing range for the violation.
