Oak Harbor man dies in crash Friday

A 30-year-old Oak Harbor man was killed in a traffic accident on North Whidbey on Friday evening.

A 30-year-old Oak Harbor man was killed in a traffic accident on North Whidbey on Friday evening.

The Washington State Patrol reported that Steven K. Johnson was driving a 2006 Suzuki SV650S motorcycle northward on Oak Harbor Road when the driver of a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo pulled out of a driveway onto the road without yielding to the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the SUV.

The accident was reported at 5:32 p.m.

Johnson was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later passed away.

Nichole L. Morrow, 27, of Oak Harbor was driving the Isuzu Rodeo. She was not injured.

The State Patrol reports that the cause of the collision was Morrow’s failure to yield to the motorcycle. Troopers found no evidence of drugs or alcohol involved in the collision.

No charges are expected, according to a State Patrol spokesperson.

The motorcycle was totaled in the collision. Johnson was wearing a motorcycle helmet.
