A 22-year-old North Whidbey man is facing a felony charge for allegedly trying to break into his father’s ex-girlfriend’s home in the middle of the night to retrieve his childhood dog, court documents state.
Chad Woods pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Jan. 9 to attempted residential burglary.
A resident of Olympic Drive in Oak Harbor called 911 at 12:46 a.m. on Dec. 22 to report that someone had tried to kick in the back door and was attempting to enter through a rear window.
An Oak Harbor police officer arrived first and found Woods lying in the grass in the backyard of the home, according to a report by Sgt. Mike Beech with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.
Woods told the officers that he was trying to get his dog back. The woman who lives in the home used to date Woods’ father and has the dog that was Woods’ childhood pet, court documents state.
“It is unknown why Woods decided to retrieve his dog at this time of the night,” Beech wrote.
If convicted of the charge, Woods could face three to nine months in jail.
