The Oak Harbor City Council and Mayor Scott Dudley will meet in special session this weekend for a council retreat.

The meeting will be held Saturday, March 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Skagit Valley College in room 306.

Retreats are usually held annually and provide the council with an informal opportunity to discuss a range of issues, from upcoming budgets and priorities to areas for improvement.

Finances may be a big topic this year. Dudley, who has made a series of staff changes in senior management at City Hall since he took office in January, is expected to release his administrative and financial plans.

The retreat is taking place the same day as the Republican precinct caucuses in Oak Harbor and Freeland. In the interest of saving money, the state Legislature decided to forego a presidential primary election and hold just caucuses.

Councilman Jim Campbell, who is running against Angie Homola for the District 2 county commissioner seat, said he will be attending the retreat and has no heartburn over having to miss the caucus.

“I’m going to the city council retreat because I believe it should be my priority,” Campbell said.
