Everett’s Erin Gordon shutout the Oak Harbor High School softball team with a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Seagulls to a 10-0 win Friday, March 27, at Lincoln Field.
Gordon used an effective change-up to baffle the Wildcats, according to Oak Harbor coach Todd Showalter. The junior struck out six and walked only one.
Gordon also threw one of two no hitters by Everett (1-0, 3-1) against Oak Harbor last spring.
Sloppy defense didn’t help the Wildcats’ cause.
“Errors were a problem, and we did not adjust to the speed of the turf field well,” Showalter said.
Kat Martinez started in the circle for Oak Harbor and gave up seven runs, only three earned. Tricia Sarns pitched the final two innings and gave up three runs, two earned.
It was an inconsistent effort by the Wildcats, Showalter said, noting his club played really well for portions of the game.
“But we had a few plays and decisions that really hurt us against a team that is a contender for the league title,” he added.
The game was the conference opener for both schools.
Oak Harbor (0-1, 0-3) travels to Arlington (1-0, 2-2) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 31.
