Editor,
In regard to a recent Oak Harbor City Council meeting: City leaders may have been simply playing politics, or were they really serious?
Subject at hand: Revision (reduction) of health benefits for city employees, aka saving money.
I tuned in about when the HR director was insisting that benchmarking such activity in other cities would not be possible “within 30 days.”
Is this laziness, a lack of experience on her part or simple recalcitrance? Benchmarking other similar work environments is routine is business.
If she’s worth a salt, she can get it out in a week and provide a feedback update to her superiors within 20 days.
What really got me was one of the supervisor’s comments to the effect that the City of Oak Harbor would not subject their employees to onerous health care deductibles, such as other local governments were enacting, or at least considering.
Get real people.
The days of government employee largesse is coming an end.
Show some hair, stand up and be counted.
