A 15-year-old Oak Harbor High School student was arrested last week for allegedly making a threat to shoot up the school, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged the boy in Island County Juvenile Court April 9 with threat to bomb or injure property. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to 30 days in detention under the standard sentencing range for juveniles.
A school resource officer with the Oak Harbor Police Department wrote in a report that a student approached him in the lunch room on April 4 to tell him about an incident that concerned her. She said that a fellow student told her in class that he was going to “air out the school” and kill specific administrators at the school, according to the report.
A second student also reported hearing the boy say he was going to shoot up the school, the officer wrote. The boy allegedly said that his dad had guns at home. The student said she was afraid because her worst fear was to have a shooting at the school.
The police contacted the boy’s father, who said he had three guns at home but that they were locked up, and his son didn’t have access to them.
