Oak Harbor student investigated for text allegedly alluding to shooting at school dance

A student in Oak Harbor is being detained for allegedly sending a text message suggesting that a middle-school dance was going to be shot up, according to the Oak Harbor police. Chief Ed Green sent out a press release this afternoon about the incident. The press release states that a student at the school-sponsored dance at North Whidbey Middle School received a text today from another student who wasn't attending the dance.

The press release states that a student at the school-sponsored dance at North Whidbey Middle School received a text today from another student who wasn’t attending the dance.

The text message “alluded” that the student had hired someone to shoot up the dance, the press release states.

The student was identified and taken into custody by police for “investigative purpose.”

No weapons were found on the school property and the police have no additional suspects.
