A 24-year-old Oak Harbor man who allegedly sold a bottle of OxyContin pills to an undercover agent last month pleaded not guilty to a felony drug charge, court documents indicate.

Prosecutors charged Joshua Adams in Island County Superior Court Jan. 22 with delivery of oxycodone, the ingredient in the prescription painkiller OxyContin. He pleaded not guilty Feb. 8.

If convicted of the charge, Adams could face more than a year in prison.

Adams was arrested after a joint operation between the Oak Harbor Police Department and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. An undercover agent purchased 42 pills from Adams for $2,500 on Jan. 19, according to the report by Detective Carl Seim.

After the transaction at a Highway 20 parking lot, the police swooped in and took three people, including Adams, into custody.

Adams admitted to the detective that he told the pills, the report states, but he was concerned about staying in jail overnight.

“Adams said it’s not going to be a good night for him because he’s addicted to heroin,” Seim wrote. “It was apparent that Adams was addicted to heroin as he appeared to be nervous, agitated and he could not sit still.”
