Oak Harbor High School tennis teammates Jackson Wezeman and Rodrigo Columbo face each other Thursday, Oct. 29, in the consolation bracket of the District 1 3A tournament at Skagit Valley College.

The Wildcat juniors each split a pair of matches in the first two rounds of the tournament at Jackson High School in Everett Tuesday.

The winner of the Wezeman/Columbo match will advanced to play in a contest to decide third and fourth place; the loser will be eliminated.

The top three finishers qualify for the state tournament.

Wezeman, the No. 2 seed from the Wesco North, began district action by defeating the No. 3 seed from the South, Meadowdale’s Lee Bruemmer, 6-4, 7-5. He then lost to the South’s top player, Jeremy Ansdell of Mountlake Terrace, 6-1, 6-2.

Columbo, the No. 3 seed from the North, opened play by losing to the South’s No. 2 seed, Gunnar Thorsterson of Shorewood, 6-0, 6-1. He stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament by stopping Glacier Peak’s Alex Surkov, the South’s No. 4 seed, 6-3, 6-3.

Oak Harbor seniors Raymond Paraiso and Calib Byers, seeded fourth in the North in doubles, dropped both their matches and were eliminated.

They fell to the South’s No. 1 team, Tucker Davis and Scott Wilson of Glacier Peak, 6-0, 6-1; then lost 6-1, 6-4 to Nathaniel Haskin and Peyton Headrick of Stanwood, the North’s No. 2 seed.
